Elders Council & Wellness Program
The Elders Council & Wellness Program at Nyumba Ya Agikuyu is dedicated to honoring elders, preserving cultural wisdom, and strengthening intergenerational connections within the community. By providing opportunities for elders to share their knowledge, participate in community decision-making, and engage in wellness activities, this program ensures that the experience, guidance, and cultural heritage of older generations remain a vital part of community life.
Our program includes Elders’ Story Circles, small group gatherings where elders share cultural history, migration experiences, and lessons learned to inspire and educate younger generations. Through the Elders Advisory Council, community leaders provide guidance, cultural stewardship, and strategic counsel to the organization and its members. We also offer language-based storytelling sessions, promoting language retention and cultural literacy, alongside social inclusion activities that encourage participation, connection, and engagement.
To support elder wellbeing, the program provides health awareness workshops, ensuring that elders have access to relevant health information, while intergenerational dialogue forums create spaces for meaningful conversations between youth, adults, and elders, fostering understanding, respect, and community cohesion.
The Elders Council & Wellness Program strengthens cultural continuity, empowers elders as community leaders, and nurtures a vibrant, intergenerational network where knowledge, wisdom, and heritage are celebrated and preserved for future generations.
