President

Aleen Lenana

Aleen is a community developer who is passionate about helping people thrive in their spaces and live authentically. She holds a Master of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Community Studies, which grounds her work in research, lived experience, and community-centered practice.

Aleen balances her professional work with volunteer leadership, while also running a home and being a proud mom. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, watching documentaries, and reading for research. She has a strong interest in authentic historical narratives and a return to culture, and believes that being culturally grounded is essential for connection, identity, belonging, and overall community well-being.

Vice President

Mumbi Maina

Mumbi works professionally with young children, a role that she treasures. She is also proud to serve as the Vice President of Nyumba ya Agikuyu. Her love for Agikuyu culture is one of the many reasons she is proud to be part of this incredible community.
 
As a Gikuyu woman, she believes strongly that when we come together, nothing is impossible. Agikuyu are driven, caring, and resilient people. She is truly proud and honoured to share this space with andu a Nyumba ya Agikuyu.
 
 

Treasurer

Margaret Ndungu

Margaret  is a dedicated team member whose warmth, reliability, and commitment to community shines through in all she does.

Despite a demanding professional schedule, she consistently volunteers her time, valuing the connections, relationships, and sense of purpose that come from giving back. Through her service, Maggie fosters belonging and strengthens community ties, all while nurturing her love for outdoor activities and her deep appreciation for music.

Secretary

Sophia Kamau

Sophia is a people-centered community builder dedicated to fostering connection, support, and unity—especially for those far from home. A proud wife and mother, she combines her love for family with a passion for bringing people together, whether through her cooking, sharing recipes on her YouTube channel, or her professional work as a licensed financial agent in Alberta.

Sophia believes in the power of collective strength and is committed to making Nyumba Ya Agikuyu a welcoming and empowering space for all.

Youth Director

Teresah Jane Muturi

Teresah is a firm believer that everyone has a unique purpose, and she strives to reflect this philosophy in her everyday life. A full-time student, she values spending quality time with loved ones and enjoys connecting with people from all walks of life. Teresah is also an avid Afrobeat dancer, loves traveling, and brings energy and passion to everything she does. Teresah strives to connect the young generation, deepen their connection to the Gikuyu culture, and encourage them to let their  differences sparkle.

Burton Maina

Burton served as President of Nyumba ya Agikuyu during its 2024 revitalization, helping reconnect members and reignite meaningful community engagement. Passionate about financial growth and community building, he is committed to strengthening the Kikuyu community.

A devoted father of three, including a son with Down syndrome, Burton is a strong advocate for inclusion and creating spaces where children and individuals of differing abilities can thrive. Guided by curiosity and continuous learning, he is always engaged in projects that foster growth and progress.
